The Guttmacher Institute says that two-thirds of public school districts have policies to teach sex education, and that 35 percent of those require that abstinence be promoted as the sole option for unmarried people. That’s interesting. I thought that the public school system, and the government in general, was not supposed to be promoting any particular religious beliefs. I suppose that some would argue that the idea that unmarried people should not have sexual intercourse is not a religious idea. It’s grounded in natural law, or the social contract, or something else.
